Sept. 23 (Saturday): "Canoe on the Turkey River with optional camping at Motor Mill Friday and/or Saturday nights. Sept. 22-24"
A variety of options are available for this canoe outing:
(1) Canoe from Elkader to Motor Mill late Friday afternoon leaving Elkader's Turkey River Park (south edge of Elkader off Highway 13) around 5 PM with a shuttle of camping gear to Motor Mill before that around 4 PM; camp at Motor Mill; canoe from Motor Mill about 10 AM on Saturday after some morning hikes; canoe to Sarber (having earlier left or shuttled a vehicle to Garber: canoe access is north of the bridge on X-41 on east side of road). Return to Motor Mill to camp Saturday night. Leave whenever Sunday morning.
(2) Canoe from Elkader's Turkey River Park leaving about 8 AM on Saturday; reach Motor Mill by 10 AM; continue on to Garber with the folks who may have camped at Motor Mill.
(3) Canoe only from Motor Mill, having first camped there or simply having arrived there by 10 AM to canoe to Garber on Saturday.
There are other sub-options regarding shuttling, timing, camping at Motor Mill, etc. Canoes and a shuttle service are available in Elkader from Turkey River Canoe Rentals.

Oct. 27-29 (Friday-Sunday): Halloween Activity and Campout options at Faraway Farm south of Dubuque available in conjunction with Saturday evening's Turkey dinner Fundraiser.
Primitive camping can begin any time after 6 PM, Friday. Saturday activity will include morning hikes to the Mississippi River, along the bluff, and in the woodland and prairie areas; and afternoon pumpkin decorating/carving and canoeing in the pond. Folks are welcome to arrive anytime Saturday to set-up camp and/or just enjoy the conservation easement property. Camping will again be available following the Turkey dinner. All camping gear and food/beverage needs are the responsibility of the participants. RSVP to Dick Worm for details.

Nov. 18 (Saturday): GPS Geocaching Outings
This will be a 2-part outing since we will be renting 10 Garmin GPS Units from Iowa State Extension for the weekend. Geocaching is a type of treasure hunt where GPS operators look for a cache that has been placed in some location and then the cache coordinates are made available on a web site. The cache may include trinkets to select from and add to. GPS orientation and geocache searches will be included during the outing. A nominal fee of $2-3 for GPS use will be accepted. If you have your own GPS, bring it.
Part I: 9 AM-noon. Meet at Swiss Valley Nature Center southwest of Dubuque. Several caches have been put in place there. Members of the Friends of DCCB will also be invited.
Part II: 3-5 PM (until dark). Meet at Yellow River State Forest at the Forest Office parking area on County Road B25. At least three caches are in place in that area. Have option to camp at a wilderness camp or at the campground. RSVP: Barb Cooey for GPS and other details.
