Spring & Summer Outings Report

The March 25 Buckthorn Removal Service Trip on the Heritage Trail went very well. Besides cutting and treating buckthorn, a dump truck full of trash was collected! THANKS everyone!! A rather interesting finale occurred following the outing. See Dick Worm's Pohlman Prairie Trash Collection article elsewhere in this newsletter.

A large turn-out attended the New Melleray Monastery Grounds Tour on April 8. Casket making and a hike in the woods and gullies on the property were highlights.

Lots of clipping back of encroaching brush occurred during the Swiss Valley Service Outing on May 13 in honor of Bob Walton's retirement. Thanks to Jim Fahrion and Dick Worm for their time on the trails.

Eight Local Folks participated in the May 22-28 backpack trip on Isle Royale in Lake Superior. Group members on the outing were Bill Jamison, Denny Kingsley, Jim Fahrion, Dick Worm, and Barb Cooey. Jerry Neff, Chair of the Quad Cities Eagle View Group, and Mal Sun Brunner and Nancy Zoltowski of near Milwaukee rounded out the roster. Wolves and moose were seen. Mosquitoes weren't too bad but black fly bites did cause discomfort for a few folks. Great sunrises and sunsets enhanced several lake vistas. Watch for a future Group Program featuring this outing.

The August potluck picnic was YUMMY!!!! And brush got trimmed back on a few trails :) THANKS.
