Backpacking Local Connections

Besides the April Local Folks Trip in New Mexico described elsewhere in this newsletter, consider these connections:

Local member Tom Davis will lead a Sierra Club llama-aided hiking trip in Wyoming's Wind River Range, August 10 - 16 (See the next issue of the Sierra magazine for trips being offered.)

Dick Worm is scheduled to be a part of the leadership for three Sierra Club backpack trips:

July 19 - 26: A mentor for an Idaho Sawtooth Mountains trip to be led by Tom Jarapko of near Chicago. Barb Cooey and Dick led this trip in 2006.

August 10 - 16: Lead a trip in the San Juan Mountain's Weminuche Wilderness in south central Colorado. Part of this route was included in a Local Folks trip that Dick arranged in 2002.

August 31 - September 6: Lead a Wind River Mountains Bridger Wilderness trip north from the southern Big Sandy Entrance. Includes scenic day-hikes to the Continental Divide. This is a new area for Dick to Explore and Enjoy.

Group Outings Chair, Barb Cooey, if schedule and arrangements can be worked out, is considering to do a thru hike of all 210 miles of the Superior Hiking Trail beginning in early September from south to north. If it all works out, Dick Worm will invite others to join a Local Folds contingent during a portion or all of the final 52 mile leg of that trek with her during a window of opportunity between 15 - 26. Details, obviously, are still in limbo.
