Thank you for contacting me regarding the use of off-road vehicles in Utah's Wilderness Character Areas. This is an important issue, and I am glad you have shared your views with me.
I believe that we need to protect valuable wilderness areas and archaeological sites from damage from off-road vehicles, and I am concerned that a draft plan currently under consideration by the Bureau of Land Management would designate miles of off-road vehicle routes through these areas in Utah. Instead of making this potentially destructive change, I believe the Bureau of Land Management should follow existing regulations which require the agency to manage off-road vehicle use to minimize the impact of these vehicles on the environment and cultural sites.
Sincerely,
