Plans for Upper Mississippi River
Charlie Winterwood, Group Chair

I attended the Open House on Alternative E for the Comprehensive Plan for the Upper Mississippi River Wildlife Refuge at the Grand River Center on January 18.

The proposal calls for an electric motor area only near Bald Eagle and Trumpeter Swan nests near Guttenberg and a no-wake zone near Nine Mile Island south of Dubuque. It establishes canoe trails near Blanding's Landing near Sabula and at the Galena Yacht Basin. It establishes a hiking trail south of Guttenberg and an Auto Trail off the Cassville Ferry Road.

Finally, it will improve the trail on John Deere Dike by adding a photography blind and an outdoor classroom.
