January 23 (Tuesday) Program/Meeting:
Isle Royale National Park, May 22-28, 2006
Eight Midwest Sierrans including five from our White Pine Group (Barb Cooey, Bill Jamison, Jim Fahrion, Denny Kingsley, and Dick Worm) backpacked over 40 miles in Isle Royale National Park located in Lake Superior, camping at inland lakes and on the Lake Superior shoreline. Two wolves were seen by one fellow and several moose were photographed. Experience via colorful slides ad participant albums the sunsets and sunrises, lake vistas, woodland wonders, and a few obstacles that this band of explorers enjoyed in the Sierra Club spirit of "Explore and Enjoy".
February 27 (Tuesday) Program/Meeting:
Zanskar's Wild West, Joe Garrity
Zanskar, the western part of northern India's Ladakh Province, was recently featured by National Geographic Adventure Traveler as one of the newest great trips. Since Ladakh Province was first opened to foreigners in 1974, this high and arid land has captured the imagination of adventure travelers who have already explored the Himalayan regions of Tibet, Bhutan, and Nepal. Come walk (at least visually) with Joe as he crosses the high pass, Kanji La, trekking from the city of Leh to Kargil, a city near the politically turbulent border with Pakistan.
